This thread allows a quick glance on characters from the original anime and manga. I will constantly update this as more characters are added and such. Note that this isn't a profile section, just a brief show of info thats recorded.

Kurosaki Ichigo

Karakura Protector - Vaizard



Zangetsu's special ability is the Getsuga Tenso, a wave of spirit particles released from his blade's edge. Correspondent to the name, the wave is shaped like a crescent moon. Although he can fire it as a wave, he can keep the power of Getsuga Tenshō within his bankai, which adds to the strength of his attacks.

Zangetsu's bankai, named Tensa Zangetsu, shrinks the sword down to a fully black one while his uniform also changes to an outfit similar to Zangetsu's. Ichigo's bankai is a compression of his spiritual pressure, rather than a vast expansion as is usually the case. By compressing his power, Ichigo can move at incredibly high speeds, though the form puts tremendous strain on his body.

In addition to his Soul Reaper powers, Ichigo partially becomes a hollow while reobtaining his Soul Reaper powers with the help of Kisuke Urahara. Ichigo is taught to control his hollow by the Vizards allowing him to call upon his hollow powers at will and without sacrificing control by donning his hollow mask. Ichigo can initially only maintain this form for eleven seconds, but the limit and strength of it increases substantially during his fights in Hueco Munod.

Zaraki Kenpachi

Captain of Squad Eleven



Kenpachi has tremendous quantities of physical strength, proving able to both kick Tōsen through a building in their battle, and grab Ichigo's giant sword barehanded to reel both him and it in for an attack. His physical strength is matched by his endurance; Kenpachi has been shown to easily ignore most of the injuries he sustains in battle, not suffering any debilitation despite suffering multiple lacerations that would disable normal humans.

Kenpachi does not know the name of his zanpakutō, and is the only captain in the history of the Gotei 13 who cannot perform bankai. Despite not knowing its name, his zanpakutō is constantly released due to his immense spiritual pressure in the same manner as Ichigo's Zangetsu. The sword's appearance is a reflection of Kenpachi's own practice of weakening himself to fight: it is a seemingly worn-down and dull blade with a guard that extends inward from its center. Despite its appearance, it is easily capable of cutting through most objects, demonstrated when it pierces straight through Ichigo's zanpakutō and later slices a building in half with careless effort after Kenpachi releases the full force of his spiritual power.

Ichimaru Gin

Betrayer



Gin Ichimaru's zanpakutō is Shinsō. It takes the form of a wakizashi when sealed. The guard is shaped like an 'S'.

Shinsō's shikai is triggered by the phrase "shoot to kill"

In its shikai, Shinsō's blade glows white and extends at high speed to impale Gin's opponents. In addition to making it a deadly long-range weapon, the extending blade also carries tremendous force without affecting Gin, making it useful for dislodging heavy objects, as seen when Gin pushes both Ichigo Kurosaki and the giant Jidanbō out from under the Seireitei gate, despite Jidanbō being firmly braced under it. Once extended, Gin can maintain the blade's length and swing Shinsō in wide arcs, simultaneously attacking multiple targets with speed and ease.

Shinsō is said too have additional abilities. Gin fires Shinsō into the sky and swords similar to Shinsō's unreleased state rain all around him. Gin shoots Shinsō into the ground and the blade hits the opponent from underneath, where as sometimes a wave of blades instead shoots up from the ground to hit the opponent.

Kuchiki Rukia



Rukia's zanpakuto, Sode no Shirayuki, is released with the command "dance. In its released state the blade becomes completely white and a ribbon forms from the pommel, earning it the recognition as the most beautiful snow and ice zanpakutō in Soul Society.

Sode no Shirayuki utilizes ice to attack, each of its three abilities being labeled as "dances" by Rukia. "First dance, white moon" denotes a circular area around Rukia's target and freezes everything within the circle from the ground upwards until it reaches the sky.

"The next dance, white ripple" fires a massive wave of ice from Sode no Shirayuki's blade. "Third dance, white sword", her final ability reserved only for when her blade is broken, reforges her zanpakutō with ice particles, piercing through any object in its path and freezing anything in the vicinity.

Kuchiki Byakuya

Captain of Squad Six



Byakuya Kuchiki's zanpakutō is Senbonzakura. Its shikai is triggered by the command "scatter" -
In its shikai, Senbonzakura's blade separates into thousands of slender blades. The release can be negated before it completes. Byakuya can control the blades at will, allowing him to shred opponents at a distance and break through almost any defense. While Byakuya can control the blades with his mind alone, using his hands allows him to do so more effectively, making the blades move twice as fast.

Senbonzakura's bankai, senkei form.Byakuya's bankai, named Senbonzakura Kageyoshi, is essentially a much larger version of Senbonzakura's shikai. To activate it, Byakuya drops his sword. The sword passes through the ground and two rows of giant blades rise up from the ground. These then scatter into millions of tiny blades.

The number of blades is great enough that Byakuya can use them for defense and offense at the same time. He commonly forms them into large masses of blades to crush opponents.Like with his shikai, its attack is triggered with the phrase "scatter".

Byakuya's bankai has several forms, achieved by arranging the blades in different patterns. They are activated by saying the name of the technique followed by the name of his bankai. Each form presents a different advantage, such as increasing offense at the expense of defense.

Byakuya's attack form is "massacre scene", which unites the scattered petals into complete swords that form rows of swords around Byakuya and his opponent. In this form, Byakuya abandons the defense potential of his many blades and concentrates on killing the enemy. While Byakuya can control these swords as he does his regular blades, he usually attacks with just one in hand. After immobilizing an opponent, he can call in the other blades to hit them while they're trapped. He can also use all the blades at once for one immensely powerful strike.

To overwhelm the defense of an opponent, Byakuya can use "throat scene". This aligns every blade in a spherical formation around his opponent, which then collapses into them from every possible angle, leaving no blind spots and no chance to escape

As a final attack he can use "final scene"- This condenses every one of his blades into a single sword, drastically increasing its cutting power. The blade appears bright white and its aura takes the form of a bird, earning it the name "white imperial sword" - Byakuya also grows pure white wings and a halo-like circle in the back, both made of spiritual power.

Aizen's zanpakutō is Kyōka Suigetsu. In its sealed form, it looks like a normal katana. Its shikai is both activated and deactivated with the command "shatter". The phrase kyōka suigetsu suggests its illusory properties; the moon reflected in water and a flower in a mirror are things that can be seen but not held. It is a Chinese idiom for seeing and desiring something that is a dream that cannot be easily grasped in hand, teaching people about temptations.

Kyōka Suigetsu's shikai has the ability to place anyone who sees it under a state of "Perfect Hypnosis", after which Aizen can make them see, hear, and feel whatever he wants. According to Aizen, the hypnosis is unbreakable, even if the target is aware that they are hypnotized. The only way to avoid the effect is to not see Kyōka Suigetsu's shikai, making the blind Kaname Tōsen immune to its effects.

The effect seems to be permanent, or at the very least long-lasting, as Aizen uses it on nearly all of the lieutenants and captains in the Gotei 13 during a ceremonial release of his zanpakutō years before faking his own death. While the illusions Kyōka Suigetsu creates are quite powerful, they are not 100% accurate.

Kyōka Suigetsu's hypnotic abilities make it a useful tool in combat as well, as Aizen can quickly create simple illusions to deceive opponents. By creating a decoy of himself, Aizen can hide his own movements and attack with impunity; his opponent, meanwhile, will remain focused on the illusion until it's too late to react.

Tōshirō Hitsugaya

Hitsugaya's zanpakuto is Hyōrinmaru. Hyōrinmaru's shikai command is translated in the English anime as sit upon the frosted heavens or "reign over the frozen sky". Hyōrinmaru is the current strongest of all ice element zanpakutō in Soul Society. Hyōrinmaru's spirit is a large, winged, Oriental dragon. Hyōrinmaru allows Hitsugaya to control water and ice.

The slashes created by Hyōrinmaru gives off an immense amount of spirit power which overflows from the tip of the blade, creating a flow of ice vaguely shaped like Hyōrinmaru's dragon spirit. The dragon flies at opponents and instantly freezes anything it touches. The chain-blade also freezes anything Hitsugaya traps with it.

Hyōrinmaru's bankai, named Daiguren Hyōrinmaru, causes ice to flow from Hyōrinmaru onto Hitsugaya, forming into two large wings, a tail, and twelve large flower petals. Once these petals vanish, the Bankai fades. Though he can reform them aslong as there is water in the air.

Hyōrinmaru's bankai has four known special techniques. The first is Ryūsenka, which freezes any enemy Hitsugaya stabs, locking them into a cocoon of ice and freezing them to the core. Once frozen, Hitsugaya can shatter his opponent.

The second is Sennen Hyōrō, which forms a multitude of ice pillars using the moisture in the atmosphere. These pillars hold the enemy prisoner for a thousand years, also freezing them. His third technique, Guncho Tsurara, he launches a multitude of ice shards in an attempt to impale his opponent. His fourth, and implied most powerful move is called Hyoten Hyakkaso, This attack causes 100 snow flakes to fall from the sky, freezing anything they touch in a flower like shape. When all 100 flakes fall, the life of the one trapped by the attack is over.
