Saiyuki's training!

The pink hair of Hoshimura Saiyuki fluttered gently around her face as her darker eyes flittered around, conscious of every movement around her. Her zanpakuto, twin Kusarigama, swung lazily at her sides. In a flash, she jerked on the chain that connected them, and the handles slid into her hands. Gripping them tightly, she spun around and knocked the knives that had targeted her out of the air. They fell with a thud into the dirt.

"You're going to have to try harder than that, Kisuke," she called to the man who's eyes were shadowed by a green and white striped bucket-hat.

"Oh, I wasn't trying," the man dismissed her comment. "But I came down to tell you, there's a few hollows on the edge of the town, and I thought you should go take care of them."

Saiyuki frowned.

"Why the hell can't you take care of them?" she demanded, sliding her zanpakuto back into her obi and crossing her arms.

Kisuke snapped open his fan and hid his grin with the white paper.

"Ah, but I'm not the one who needs the practice."

The next second, Saiyuki was pulling her fist out of Kisuke's face, and stomped on his head when she trampled over him, heading for the ladder that lead out of the training space.

"Yeah, yeah, hat and clogs. I'm on it..."

"Ahh," Kisuke cried, putting his hand up to his bleeding nose. "So mean..."

Saiyuki climbed up the ladder and waved to Tessai, Jinta, and Ururu as she dashed out of the Urahara Shoten. Leaping from roof to roof, she headed in the general direction of the weak spiritual disturbance of the hollows. Since the carrot-top, Kurosaki, had been spending more and more time away from Karakura town, weaker and weaker hollows returned.

Coming to a stop on a rooftop at the edge of the town, she waited in silence for the hollows to appear. Hideous cries grew louder and louder, and in a few minutes, the first hollow appeared from behind the low bridge that spanned the river. The ugly creature spotted the young girl and raised its grotesque head to get a better look at her. Deeming her unimportant, it turned to head off to another part of the town.

Yanking her Kusarigama out of her obi, she leaped off of the roof, snarling.

"Oh, no you don't!"

Before the creature could turn around, Saiyuki whipped the chain around its neck and pulled tight, cutting off its air supply. Yanking it to the ground, she pulled her zanpakuto free and buried the blades deep into its neck, neatly decapitating it.

With a screech, the other hollow appeared behind Saiyuki and knocked her into a nearby building. Growling, the girl spat blood out of her mouth and leapt at the greusome creature. It evaded her first thrust with the deadly blades, but, thinking fast, Saiyuki broke off the chain from one of the weapons and whipped it at the hollow. the weighted chain wrapped around one of its arms, and, distracted, it looked down and attempted to remove it.

In a flash, Saiyuki leapt into the air and threw her free blade into the hollow's chest. With a cry, she then pulled up on her other weapon and buried it deep into the creature's skull, ripped it down, and succesfully hacked its head into two pieces.

Falling to the ground awkwardly, Saiyuki managed to land on her feet. Wincing as her bruised back protested, she spat venemously at the spot where the hollow had lain, and turned on her heel, abandoning the site of the killing.

Saiyuki leapt from roof to roof as she tracked the surprisingly strong hollow that was wandering somewhere around Karakura town. Her long hair whipped her face as she sped through the night, cheeks beaten pink. Her eyes glittered in the light of the streetlamps as her steps slowed. Something was not right.

Before she knew it, she was being slammed into a nearby building. seconds later, she was hit again. Driven deeper into the wall, her ribs were bruised, and her breath left her in an unladylike gasp. She tasted blood as a cut on the insode of her cheek fell on her tongue and painted her lips crimson. Anticipating a third attack, Sai pulled her zanpakuto from her obi and crossed them blindly in front of her. The next impact was stopped by the gleaming blades, and a ghastly screech soon ensued.

Leaping from the rubble, Sai bounded up to crouch on a lightpost, Kusarigama crossed in front of her. A ripple in the air to her right alerted her of the hollow's presence (it could be nothing other than a hollow). Leaping up, she slashed at the spot, only to be hit in the back. Catching herself before she slammed into the ground, she landed hard on one knee, wincing in pain as a result.

craters appeared in the ground before her, coming ever closer. vaulting backwards in a back-handspring, she evaded the attack as an idea came to her. Saiyuki stumbled on a turn over, only to be raked in the side with painfully sharp claws. Her breath left her in a sharp hiss, but she smiled in satiscaftion as she saw the crimson liquid hovering in the air ten feet away from her.

Spinning her Kusarigama, she renewed her grip, only to be knocked across the road again. Bleeding heavily from her battered back, she smiled when the creature shrieked in anguish. The kusarigama were buried deep into its back and shoulder. A large shape rippled and contorted as the hollow began to lose its control over its invisibility.

Saiyuki leapt up and headed for the hollow, but was surprised when she was swept up by a tentacle-type appendage circling around her slender neck. THe hollow must have had multiple arms. Legs kicking uselessly, Saiyuki gasped in vain for air as her fingers scrabbled at the tentacle.

Removing one hand, against her instinct to claw at the thing restricting her air supply, she pointed at the flickering creature's neck. She opened and closed her mouth a few times before she found enough of her remaining air to gasp, "Hadou #04: Byakurai!"

A gaping hole appeared in the hollows neck, and Saiyuki fell to the ground, wheexing and clutching her throat. The hollow thrashed around for a moment or two before Sai gathered enough strength to pick up one of her Kusarigama which had fallen in the skirmish, and used the chain to pull the creature down. Staggering over to the soul-eater, she glared at it through a quickly forming black eye, and, in a flash, ended its existance.

Picking up her zanpakuto, she wearily slid them back into her obi and started her journey home.

The night air was warm and damp as the lone figure of Hoshimura Saiyuki slinked across her small town, keeping to the shadows even though there was an extremely minimal chance of her being seen by a human. As she ghosted along, her hands kept gravitating back to the spot in her obi where her zanpakuto normally lay.

“’No zanpakuto!’” She mimicked, pulling a face. “’You need to work on your kidou and hand to hand.’ Feh!” She kicked at a pebble grumpily and sent it flying into a light pole with a loud ping. “Stupid cat…”

Darkness covered her like a blanket as all of the lights around her suddenly went out.

“What the…?”

The loud screech that reverberated through the air was answer enough. She immediately reached behind her and growled in anger. She was technically weaponless. With a howl of frustration, she leapt onto a nearby wall to wait as her eyes adjusted to the sudden lack of light. Vibrations raced up her body as the hollow that lurked in the shadows drew near.

She moved her arm out at her side and whispered, “Bakudou #06: Takemori.”

A ball of green energy appeared in her left hand before flattening itself out into a long spear. Her fingers curled around the kidou weapon as the hollow closed in on her. Her pupils contracted in the sudden light of the demon magic, making the hollow all but invisible to her as she peered into the darkness. The next howl from the hollow was extremely close, almost right next to her.

Leaping up, Saiyuki jabbed at the general area the cry came from, only to be slammed into the ground by the hollow. With a shout, the young shinigami thrust the spear into the appendage that had sent her into the ground, and was dully rewarded with an unearthly shrill of pain and rage. The crushing weight was immediately lifted from her, allowing the girl to escape as her weapon disappeared.

Her eyes finally adjusted, allowing her to see the hideous lizard-beast that was her attacker. Wasting not even a minute as she hollow distressed over its wound, Saiyuki leaped, momentum carrying her at her enemy in a spinning back kick. The hollow grabbed her leg, effectively stopping her kick, and attempted to throw her into the building next to it, but Saiyuki grabbed its arm and kicked up with her free leg, catching it under the chin.

The hollow fell back, taking Saiyuki, whose leg was still in its clawed grasp, with it. Girl and creature tumbled to the ground roughly. Saiyuki, crushed under the bulk of the hollow, grunted in pain as her head cracked against the unforgiving concrete. Her vision flickered for a moment before she regained her senses and shoved weakly at the creature that was slowly suffocating her.

Saiyuki managed to get her hand under the hollow’s chin and pointed her trembling fingers. “Hadou #01: Sho!”

The blast of energy threw the still dazed hollow away from her, leaving the girl able to crawl away. Massaging her bruised ribs, Saiyuki backed away from the recuperating hollow, searching for a weapon to use. She wouldn’t be able to use kidou over and over and over again. Spotting a metal railing on the side of a nearby walkway, she darted over to it and cried, “Hadou #03: Sogeki!”

The attack, though meant for cutting through flesh, worked well enough on the cool metal, breaking through to the other side. Saiyuki gripped the metal in both hands and placed her foot on another end, successfully breaking it away from the rest of the railing. Letting out a cry of triumph as she turned with her weapon, she was met only with the sight of a large black arm heading straight for her. She had time only to move the metal bar between her and the hollow before the fist connected.

Unable to catch her footing, Saiyuki skidded back until she hit the wall hard. With a slight groan of pain, she shook her head and darted away as the fist came at her again. Raising the metal bar, she prepared for her attack, only to find herself grasping air.

“Areh?”

Looking up, she spotted Yoruichi standing on a light post, lazily twirling the weapon in her hands. The violet haired woman wagged her finger tauntingly at Saiyuki before leaping away, weapon with her.

“God Dammit!” Saiyuki cried in frustration. “Something squishy is going to find its way into her bed tonight. This time, it’ll be worms!”

With renewed vigor, fueled by fury, the young shinigami leaped at the hollow once more, landing quick punches and kicks on the points on its body that would cause it to lock up. The hollow let out a scream of anguish as it realized that it could no longer lift its arms or move its legs. Eyes blazing with anger at her mentor, Saiyuki vaulted up to crouch on the creature’s shoulder and jabbed it in the throat, further immobilizing it.

Curling all fingers but one into a fist, Saiyuki directed her hand to the side of the hollow’s head. “Hadou #04: Byakurai!”

The creature hadn’t time even to let out a screech of pain before its mask shattered under the blast of energy that emitted from Saiyuki’s outstretched finger. The girl flipped back down to the ground as the hollow dematerialized before her.

Letting out a sigh, the young girl turned away from the spot that the hollow had so recently occupied, only to be hit in the back of the head with the metal pipe she had earlier planned on using.

“Ow!!! The fuck was that for?” Saiyuki screeched, holding her hear as tears of pain leaked from her eyes.

“I told you no weapons. That’s what you get for trying to cheat.”
